Yesterday a good friend dragged me to an exhibit of glass pumpkins. Yes, glass pumpkins. Now, I'm a big fan of hand-blown glass. Its delicacy and colors are hard to resist. And it seems like such a sophisticated hobby. But I simply couldn't wrap my mind around an exhibit solely devoted to glass pumpkins.

We arrived at the exhibit shortly after it opened at Noon. I was blown away when we entered the outdoor exhibit, where I was suddenly surrounded by hundreds of pieces of art. The hay bales and grass where the pumpkins were displayed was obviously meant to give the appearance of a pumpkin patch. What a clever idea! My skepticism about art devoted to glass gourds disappeared at my first glance of the display. Cobalt blue, delicate pink, irridescent white, Art Deco-ish designs - there was truly a pumpkin for every taste. And with prices ranging from $25 - $2,500 there was also art for every pocketbook.

AROMATHERAPY GOES TO THE DOGS! Though I don't consider myself an over-the-top doggie owner - no nail polish, faux fur clothing or crystal jewelry in Frankie's (my canine) wardrobe - I recently found a product that makes our lives together much more enjoyable. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET Nothing is exactly what you get when you purchase this non-product from British company I Want One Of Those (IWOOT). The item description on their site calls it " . . . a lovingly crafted vial of emptiness . . . " It's great for the person who has everything, doesn't want anything or just plain doesn't deserve a thing. The product struck a chord - it sold out in mid-December and IWOOT won't have new inventory until early January. Those of us with concerns about the environment may cringe - the non-product sells for $6.28 in American dollars and ships for approximately the same amount. Imagine the good those dollars could do if donated to a responsible green charity . . .
